Louisiana Foundation Against Sexual Assault announces their new attorney, Jaimelle Thomas

The Louisiana Foundation Against Sexual Assault (LaFASA) is eager to announce the addition of their new attorney, Jaimelle Thomas, to their legal services program. Thomas is a 2016 graduate from Southern University Law Center and received her Bachelor of Arts in political science with a minor in both criminal justice and history from Southeastern Louisiana University.

Since 2014, Thomas has worked as a clerk for the Louisiana court system and is now more than ready to begin assisting survivors of sexual assault with their legal needs.

Through her organizational affiliations, Thomas has had the opportunity to work with numerous charitable agencies such as Soles4Souls and St. Vincent de Paul, and mentors high school and college students. Her experience working with nonprofits naturally drew her to the mission of LaFASA which includes pro bono direct legal services. Thomas explained, “I have always had a passion for helping the underprivileged and I can see that working with LaFASA will nurture and grow my opportunities to help those in need.”

Sean Cassidy, who has been LaFASA’s only attorney since 2016, is very much looking forward to having Thomas on board. The new position doubles LaFASA’s legal workforce, enabling the organization to provide services to many more in need. Most survivors reach out to LaFASA as their only means of legal support for a host of reasons ranging from oppressive environments to lack of finances. Survivors are given assistance regardless of their background or circumstances. LaFASA is proud to be one of a few non-profit agencies in the state of Louisiana that provides pro bono legal assistance exclusively to sexual assault survivors.

LaFASA is dedicated to eliminate sexual violence through program support, education, and social change. It is the coalition agency that serves statewide sexual assault crisis centers through education, professional training, technical assistance, and community engagement resulting in safer, healthier, stronger, and better-informed communities throughout Louisiana.
