John R. Wooten, Sr., 91, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2019 while under the care of the Northwest La. Veterans home in Bossier City. Visitation will be held at Miller Funeral Home in Monroe on Friday, June 28, 2019, from 2 pm – 6 pm. Funeral services will be held at the Miller Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 11 am.
John was born on November 2, 1927, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Blanch and Lois Wooten. He was married to the love of his life, the late Alma Ruth Dorn in Alexandria on May 22, 1955. They enjoyed 56 years together. After graduating high school in Kelly, La., he began his career with the United States Army in May 1946, ending his service in 1952, while bestowing the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served with honor in Japan during the Korean War. On September 16, 2016, John was recognized by Gov. John Bell Edwards for his dedicated service to our country.
John and Alma moved to Monroe in 1962 and began a family that grew to include five children. After working many years at F. Strauss & Son Distribution Company, John began a career at the United States Postal Service, where he later retired after 25 years. He was a very compassionate husband and father who loved the Lord and studied the Bible rigorously.
Left to cherish his memories are his children, Sharon Wooten, Bossier City, La., Frank Wooten, Sr. (Deborah) San Bernardino, Ca., John R. Wooten, Jr. (Cassandra) Monroe, La., Bruce Wooten, Sr., Monroe, La., and Dwight Wooten, Sr. (Andrea) Dallas, Tx. Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
