Our allegiance must be to Jesus Christ and him only

By: Lisa Wilmore

Scripture: Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul (1 Corinthians 1:10-13)?

Dear Christian Friends,

It is a blessing from God to be alive and well on this day and new year! Happy New Year to all!

There are so many blessings God has granted to us until we can not count them all. Just take a moment today and praise him for his acts of kindness and generosity.

Today’s message emphasizes the aforementioned passage of scripture which highlights the church of Corinth’s divisiveness and cliquish manner during Paul’s and others’ ministry in preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul pens that Christians must be “perfectly united in mind and thought.” In other words, believers must be joined together as one body in Christ. Our love and respect for the leaders and overseers of our churches is noteworthy, but must not cause division among ourselves. Paul reminds the church that he did not die for them. Therefore, our allegiance must be to Jesus and no one else.

God gave me the opportunity to attend a christian conference, recently. It was exciting to witness the many members of the body of Christ come together to learn, praise and worship him. How exciting! I believe in my heart that we shared a common goal. The goal was to learn more about Christ and praise him for his many blessings. Christians would have a lasting impact on the world if we unite with one mind and thought?

It is important to realize that we must be followers of Jesus and not of human beings. We should also recognize that Christ lives in our christian leaders and the Holy Spirit gives them his message to deliver.

We should give our allegiance to Jesus and him only. Therefore, in order to enjoy the “learning, praising and worshipping” experience that was aforesaid, we must live in unity with one another and praise our Savior, not humans.
