Veteran community activist and educator, Anna Reed, will be the newest member of the Ouachita Parish Police Jury, at least until the end of the year.
Reed was selected by the police Jury to fill the unexpired term of Pat Moore who was recently elected State Representative for District 17.
Reed was selected on recommendation of Moore. She will serve until elections for the seat are held in October and November.
She will not seek election to the seat.
When asked to serve, Reed said she has no desire to serve in the position beyond this year and will not seek election to the seat.
She said she will work with police jurors to shepherd flood related projects begun by Moore to completion. She will also do what she can to help in the new construction at the Ouachita Correctional Center spearheaded by Moore and Juror Ollibeth Reddix.
Reed has unsuccessfully sought election to the school board on several occasions, but has continued to volunteer in many areas.
