Rev. Ike Byrd joins number planning run for city mayor

A prominent pastor has thrown his hat in the ring in the race to unseat Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo in the Spring 2020 election.

The Rev. Ike Byrd, pastor of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, confirmed this week that he will be a candidate for Mayor of Monroe in the March 2020 city elections. He met with leaders of his church Sunday to inform them of his decision.

Byrd, a prominent pastor in both the black and white communities, joins a growing number of persons who are seeking to unseat incumbent mayor Jamie Mayo.
