School Board with Black super majority to take over

The Monroe City School board will have a black super-majority when the new board takes office in January, with that majority comes mandate to improve the performance of all of its schools, especially its failing Southside Schools.

In elections last week, voters elected two new school board members and returned an incumbent. Elected were: Betty Ward Cooper, of District 5; Brandon “B. J.” Johnson of District 6; and Sharon Neal of District 7.

Cooper won election by 58 perc
