Louisiana State Police report that early Wednesday morning, officers of the Louisiana State Police shot and killed Erroll Johnson, 31, in the aftermath of a shootout between Johnson and State Police officers.
According to the LSP Johnson was a suspect in the July 5th attempted murder of State Police officer near Calhoun.
The LSP reports that its officers located Johnson at a Monroe motel in the early hours of July 8, 2020, and attempted to take him into custody. Police say Johnson refused to surrender and shot at police. Police say gunfire was exchanged and Johnson was killed.
The investigation into the shooting has initially revealed that a trooper attempted to stop a 2020 Toyota RAV 4 for a traffic violation. They say the driver of the Toyota, identified as Johnson, refused to stop which led to a pursuit.
LSP says the trooper pursued Johnson a short distance before he stopped his vehicle and exited with a firearm.
They say after exiting his vehicle, Johnson and the trooper exchanged gunfire.
A passenger in Johnson’s vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
