Services for a woman who made a career of working with children as a school secretary at Caroll and Neville High School will be held Saturday.
Services for Barbara Walker-Augurson, 78, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the New Antioch Baptist Church.
Visitation – Friday, April 23, 2021 – 6 – 7:30 pm at Smith Funeral Home, 907 Winnsboro Road, Monroe, LA 71202.

Barbara Jean Walker-Augurson, 78, of Monroe, LA, ascended to Glory on Friday, April 16, 2021, in the loving care of her family.
Barbara was born on July 13, 1942, in Gilbert, Louisiana. She was one of nine children & recently celebrated her 2nd Wedding Anniversary with husband, Oscar Augurson, who survives her.
She was a member of Eastside High School’s Class of 1961 (Downsville, LA) & received her Associates Degree (Business Administration) from Delta Area Vocational School (Monroe, LA).
As a loving mother & the matriarch of the family, she dedicated her life to caring for her family. Though she lived a very private life, Barbara was a world traveler, a fashionista who never turned down a shopping opportunity, an avid sports fan & a devout reader of God’s Word.
In her professional life, she dedicated over 40 years to the students of the Monroe City School System serving as an Administrative Assistant at Morris Henry Carroll Senior High School & at Neville Senior High School.
During this time, she served as Cheerleader Sponsor, Communication Liaison for College Recruitment, Honorary US Air Force Recruiter, Athletic Department Bookkeeper & surrogate Mother to ALL of her students.
She is preceded in death by two siblings: Lula Mae Simmons and Mary Boden-Harris.
She is survived by her 3 children: Stephanie Walker-McLeod, Anthony Walker & Terrance Walker. Six Siblings: Milton Caldwell, Margie Caldwell-Gauthia, Arthur Caldwell, Cynthia Brown, Mitchell Ray Caldwell & Steven Caldwell.
