Funeral services will be held Monday for a prominent churchwoman who died last week.
Services for Sister Stephanie Vallinda Henderson McHenry will be held Monday, December 28th at 11 a.m. at the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church. Sister McHenry died on December 17th. She was 51 years old.
Visitations will be held Sunday between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at McFarland Funeral Home on Berg Jones Lane.
She was the sister of Rev. Timothy Henderson, Pastor of the St. Paul Baptist Church in Monroe.

Stephanie Vallinda Henderson Russell McHenry was born to the late Michael Flood and Sophie Henderson, on December 6, 1969, at Edward Allen Conway Memorial Hospital at Monroe, Louisiana.
She was reared in Warden, Louisiana (5 miles north of Delhi, Louisiana). She was nicknamed “Midget” by her late grandfather Henry Henderson, Sr. Stephanie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. She united with the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Frank Wilson. She remained a faithful and active member until she moved to Monroe, Louisiana in 1986.
Stephanie attended and completed pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, elementary, and three years of high school in Delhi, Louisiana. She attended Neville High School her senior year and graduated in 1987. After high school, she attended the University of Louisiana at Monroe (formerly Northeast Louisiana University) for 2 years, majoring in nursing. She also attended Delta Vo-Tech for a short period of time. In 2000, she later attended and graduated from Career Technical College in Massage Therapy.
After moving to Monroe, Stephanie united with the Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church of Alto, Louisiana under the leadership of Reverend Joe N. Ward, where she served as a faithful choir member.
Stephanie united in holy matrimony to Reverend John L. Russell, II on February 27, 1993. During their union of marriage two daughters were born Johnnisha Louise Russell and Sophea Daphanelia Johnsha Russell and one daughter Victoria Johnta’ Wade was also reared by them. On February 28, 1993, she moved her membership to the Antioch Baptist Church. She later became one of the founding members of the New Antioch Baptist Church, both under the leadership of Reverend John L. Russell, Sr.
She later married Mr. Billy Mansfield & Mr. James McHenry.
After a period, Stephanie united with the Peter Rock Baptist Church under the leadership of her brother Dr. Timothy Henderson, Sr. She later reunited with the Zion Traveler Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Annanias Word, where she remained a member until her death.
She served as an active choir member/ lead soloist in all the above church families. Other titles of service included church secretary, youth leader, and pre-school Sunday school teacher.
Stephanie departed this life on Thursday, December 17, 2020, after a fatal car accident.
She was preceded in death by her father and maternal grandparents, Henry and Willie Mae Henderson.
Stephanie leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Mr. James McHenry; four daughters, Mrs. Victoria (Eugene) Tates of Monroe, Louisiana; Ms. Johnnisha Russell of New Orleans, Louisiana; Sophea Russell of Monroe, Louisiana; and Jireh Bennett of Queens, New York; mother and stepfather, Dr. Sophie and William Roberson, Jr. of Monroe, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Jayanna Symone Frazier, Genesis Julianna Vaunte’ Tates, John’Mychael Russell, Alani Danielle Hampton, and Serenity Grace Russell; special friend, Charles LeBlanc of Monroe, Louisiana; a sister, Dr. Veronica (Samuel) McDowell of Alexandria, Louisiana; two brothers, Shermann (Linda) Henderson and Dr. Timothy (Senalda) Henderson; two aunts, Gloria (Emmanuel) Jones of Delhi, Louisiana, and Connie Fluker of Chicago, Illinois; two uncles, Allen (Shelly) Henderson of Warden, Louisiana, and Levern Henderson of Florence, South Carolina; and a host of other relatives and friends.
